Taiwan Sends Presidential Envoy to Attend Inauguration of Somaliland President

The President-elect of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, took office on the 12th of December. Wu Chih-chung, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), visited Somaliland as a special envoy to attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China issued a press release stating that the presidential election in Somaliland was held on November 13th. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, the presidential candidate of the Waddani Party and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, was elected as the new president. His inauguration ceremony took place on December 12th. Deputy Minister Wu Chih-chung was dispatched as a special envoy to represent the government and people, highlighting the friendly relationship between the two countries as democratic partners.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that the special envoy Wu Chih-chung and his delegation arrived in the capital of Somaliland, Hargeisa, on the 11th of November. Rhoda Jama Elmi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somaliland, welcomed the Taiwanese delegation at the airport. Mohamed Omar Hagi Mohamoud, the representative of Somaliland in Taiwan, and Khadar Hussein Abdi, representative of the new government transition team, were also present to greet and welcome the delegation from Taiwan.

During this visit, Special Envoy Wu Chih-chung will attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Somaliland president, conveying congratulations from President Tsai Ing-wen to President Abdullahi. He will also meet with current President Muse Bihi Abdi, other Somaliland officials, representatives of various countries in Somaliland, and diplomatic envoys to discuss the latest international developments.

Somaliland is an important friendly partner of the Republic of China in the East African region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China will continue to promote various exchanges and cooperation with Somaliland, further deepening bilateral friendship.
