Female journalist fractured after being dragged when undercover at an underground surrogate spot in Hangzhou

Recently, a underground surrogacy location in Linping District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, was exposed. A female journalist from mainland China was dragged by on-site personnel on the evening of May 26th during a covert visit to the surrogacy site, resulting in a fracture of her fibula. The location involved has since been sealed off, and the related case is still under investigation.

According to a report from “Elephant News” on May 27th, a resident of Hangzhou, Mr. Chen, disclosed on May 26th that there was an underground test tube baby embryo laboratory hidden in a villa area in Linping District, Hangzhou. The laboratory was pointed out to lack proper medical qualifications, yet was providing services such as egg donation and embryo implantation for surrogacy.

That night, the journalist entered a suspected underground test tube baby embryo laboratory on Wuzhou Road, Linping District of Hangzhou, where she saw gynecological examination beds, ultrasound machines, optical microscopes, egg retrieval catheters, sperm collection cups, and 12 incubators for storing and cultivating embryos, all labeled with customer names and numbers.

There were also numerous suspected medical waste materials on site, including glassware, used egg retrieval tools, in vitro fertilization micro-operation tubes, and other consumables. The journalist also observed three generations of test tube labels with customer names, three patient wristbands, a portable liquid nitrogen tank, as well as multiple embryo samples stored in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator, labeled with customer names.

The report stated that these equipment and items were suspected to be related to embryo cultivation, preservation, and transplantation operations. Subsequently, the journalist accompanied local health supervision personnel to the second floor of the villa for inspection. A staff member of the surrogacy site suddenly dragged the journalist from behind while she was standing on the stairs, causing her to fall to the ground.

Medical records from the Chinese-Western Integrative Hospital in Linping District, Hangzhou, showed that the journalist suffered a fibula fracture.

The report also mentioned Mrs. Zhang, a 44-year-old woman preparing for pregnancy, who had spent 100,000 yuan at an organization claiming to be a “Nephew-Treasure test tube surrogacy agency,” signing a contract for a so-called “two-year success package” including services such as egg donation, physical conditioning, and multiple embryo transfers. Mrs. Zhang stated that she had experienced two unsuccessful embryo transfers and developed multiple gynecological conditions.

The third-grade hospital physical examination report provided by Mrs. Zhang indicated that she was not completely unable to conceive naturally and still possessed the basic conditions for independent pregnancy and ovarian stimulation. After signing the contract, the “Nephew-Treasure test tube surrogacy agency” sent Mrs. Zhang photos of three women undergoing ovarian stimulation, urging her to quickly select an egg donor, using persuasive language like “egg retrieval in about 15 days” and “can catch up with the Year of the Horse babies.” The agency also focused on recommending O-type blood egg donors, claiming their compatibility was stronger.

On the morning of May 27th, reporters from “Elephant News” visited the scene of the villa laboratory again and found that a cordon had been set up at the site. Local media reports cited local notifications stating that medical equipment, drugs, and other items related to human assisted reproduction technology were found at the scene. The site involved has been sealed off, and the related medical equipment and items have been sealed and confiscated, while the case remains under investigation.
