The German Institute in Taiwan announced that the newly appointed director, Karsten Tietz, arrived in Taiwan in mid-August and expressed his eagerness to invest his energy and creativity in deepening the German-Taiwanese relationship during his tenure.
The German Institute in Taiwan posted on Facebook today that Mr. Karsten Tietz, the new director, arrived in Taiwan in mid-August this year. The director is looking forward to investing his energy and creativity in deepening the German-Taiwanese relationship during his term.

to see the photo) of Director Tietz taking a group photo with German President Frank Steinmeier during a farewell event for new German representatives held by the President earlier this year.
On the official website of the German Institute in Taiwan, Karsten Tietz’s self-introduction was released. He stated, “Germany and Taiwan are partners in values. We share the same beliefs, including freedom, rule of law, and human rights. I am delighted to come to vibrant Taiwan, a democratic society, to serve as the director of the German Institute in Taiwan. In the current unstable global political situation, I am committed to deepening our relationship.”
Karsten Tietz holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Hamburg in Germany and a Master of Laws from Duke University in the United States. From 1995 to 1997, he served as a member of the Hamburg State Parliament in Germany, and from 1998 to 2000, he was an assistant to the board of directors at Allianz Group in Germany. In 2000, he joined the German Foreign Ministry and was posted to countries like Thailand and the United States. From 2015 to 2018, he served as the Deputy Consul General of Germany in Hong Kong, and from 2021 to 2025, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Staff Committee at the German Foreign Ministry.
