To commemorate the three Los Angeles County detectives who tragically lost their lives weeks ago while on a mission, the Temple Station of the Los County Police Department held a barbecue fundraising event on Thursday (14th) afternoon at Temple City Park. The event, named Temple Station’s BBQ Fundraiser, attracted a large number of community residents and colleagues from the law enforcement field, creating a solemn and warm atmosphere on site.
The fatal incident occurred several weeks ago when the three detectives were conducting an arson investigation mission at the county police training facility and unfortunately encountered an explosive accident, resulting in their immediate death. This incident shocked the law enforcement community. The event aimed to commemorate Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Victor Lemus, and William Osborn, the three detectives, and raise funds for their surviving family members for their daily living and education expenses.
The event featured a sale of taco meal sets, priced at $20 each, with all proceeds being donated to the families of the fallen detectives to assist in the lives and growth of their children. It was reported that the three detectives left behind more than ten children, burdening their families with heavy responsibilities and pressures.
Jorge Meza, the chief of the Temple City Police Substation, expressed that the fundraising meal was a concrete action to pay tribute to and show support for their fallen colleagues. He stated, “We lost three dedicated detectives who were also the pillars of three families. Through this event, we hope to let the bereaved feel the warmth of the community during difficult times.”
Deputy Mayor William Wen and Councilor Chen Xiangning of Temple City also attended the event to show their support. Deputy Mayor Wen stated that Temple City has long collaborated with the county police department, emphasizing the close relationship between the safety of officers and city security. “After the accident, the entire community felt sorrow,” he said. “This fundraiser is not only a tribute but also a practical action. I hope that every donation can alleviate the burden on the families of the deceased.”
Councilor Chen Xiangning emphasized that the city government will continue to cooperate with the police department to ensure public safety and support the well-being of officers’ families.
The event started at 11 a.m., and many residents brought their families to join. Apart from purchasing meals to show support, there were also direct donations from the public, demonstrating the community’s respect and care for law enforcement officers.
