Located in Arlington, Virginia, the full name of the airport is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. A warning posted on its official website stated, “In order to accommodate the aerial performances along the parade route and subsequent fireworks display, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is expected to suspend airline operations at Reagan National Airport—impacting scheduled flights.”
Passengers booked on flights for the evening of June 14th are advised to directly contact their respective airlines for flight status information, according to the warning.
The US Army will hold a grand parade on June 14th to celebrate its 250th anniversary, to be held in Washington, D.C. This celebration has been years in the making and initially did not include a parade, but later included new additions—an elaborate parade that President Trump has long wanted to host.
The exact time of Reagan National Airport’s closure is currently unclear. According to The Washington Post, the airport may shut down starting from 6 p.m. that day for approximately three to four hours. Weather conditions and the timing of events on that day will affect the hours and duration of the airport closure.
Aside from the aerial and fireworks displays on June 14th, there will also be a parachute performance by the Golden Knights parachute team. These activities will impact the airspace management in the surrounding areas of Washington, D.C.
The grand parade will kick off at the Pentagon at 6 p.m. on that day, showcasing a range of military equipment. Steven Warren, the Deputy Chief of Public Affairs at the US Army, previously mentioned that there will be a “large-scale aerial performance” during the parade.
He stated, “Over 50 helicopters will participate, including 64 Apaches, 60 Black Hawks, and 47 Chinooks.”
