On December 10th, a man was found carrying 100 headphones when entering from the Qingmao Port in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. This news quickly became a hot topic on Baidu’s search list on December 17th.
According to a post on the official Weibo account of the General Office of the Customs of the Communist Party of China, on December 11th around 10 a.m., a passenger dressed in a black short-sleeved shirt and a pink jacket entered through the “nothing to declare” channel at the Qingmao Port. The passenger appeared nervous and deliberately used a backpack to cover his abdomen. He was intercepted and found to have bound 100 headphones with plastic film around his waist and abdomen.
The post by the Customs authorities stated, “Smuggling items that should be declared for customs duties when entering or exiting the country constitutes a criminal offense if the seriousness of the situation warrants it.”
This news has sparked attention and discussion among netizens. Some netizens commented on the high prices of headphones in China, speculating on the type of headphones that were smuggled.
The Customs authorities also reported other smuggling cases recently discovered, ranging from used mobile phone screens to placenta injection syringes and a large quantity of cigarettes and e-cigarettes.
In a separate incident, the Customs at Urumqi’s Yierkeshitan Port found the claws of a protected golden eagle concealed under a mattress in a vehicle entering from Kyrgyzstan.
These cases illustrate the diverse range of items that individuals have attempted to smuggle into the country, from cosmetics and health supplements to wildlife products and fresh pineapples.
In a previous case, the Customs in Luohu confiscated a significant amount of diamonds hidden on a person’s body.
Apart from mobile phones and diamonds, there have been cases where individuals attempted to smuggle endangered wildlife species, such as turtles, concealed during their entry into the country.
The Qingmao Port, also known as the Guangdong-Macao New Channel, serves as a gateway connecting the Macao Special Administrative Region and Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, China.
