Recently, residents of Zhidan County, Yan’an City in Shaanxi Province, provided feedback on two consecutive incidents of crude oil leaks in the area.
According to a report by “The Beijing News,” on August 15, residents of Zhidan in Shaanxi reported that there was a rupture and leak in the crude oil pipeline near Maizhuang in the Huolangmiao operation area of Changqing Oilfield’s Oil Extraction Plant No.3. Residents also disclosed that a crude oil leak had just occurred at the Houshi operation area of Oil Extraction Plant No.1 of Changqing Oilfield on August 13.
On August 16, the relevant responsible person of the company involved confirmed that there was only “a little leak,” and measures had been taken to deal with the incident.
The Zhidan County Ecological Environment Protection Comprehensive Law Enforcement Team stated that they are further investigating the two aforementioned incidents of crude oil leaks and will conduct case investigations after completing the pollution assessment.
In response to this, netizens questioned, “A crude oil leak occurred in the pipeline of Changqing Oilfield in Zhidan County, Shaanxi, and after being reported by the public, the environmental protection department intervened for investigation. The company claimed that the leak was small and had been cleaned up, but with consecutive leak incidents happening, it has raised doubts from the public about the maintenance and management of the pipeline. Public opinion is concerned about whether the company has a problem with delayed reporting. If pollution incidents are not reported promptly according to regulations, it will increase relevant responsibilities. Crude oil leaks can damage soil and the ecological environment. The consecutive occurrence of similar incidents in the area in a short period of time exposes shortcomings in the company’s equipment inspection and risk prevention.”
Previously, on December 26, 2024, there was also a crude oil leak incident in Zaiziwu Village, Yizheng Town, Zhidan County, where a large area of black crude oil appeared on the road, with some flowing into waterways.
