13 dead, 3 injured in Henan highway collision between overloaded bus and truck in the early morning.

In the early hours of today (May 28th), a overloaded truck carrying 9 registered passengers but actually carrying 16 people crashed into another truck on a highway in Henan Province, China. As a result, 13 people have been confirmed dead and 3 others injured.

The accident occurred around 2:40 am on May 28th at the K991+800 section of the G40 Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway in Maoji, Tangbai, Nanyang City, Henan Province. The involved vehicle was a Great Wall bus with license plate number 鄂F8A7L8 (registered for 9, carrying 16) rear-ending a semi-trailer truck in front, leading to the casualties.

Recently, there have been multiple serious early morning accidents caused by overloaded vehicles in mainland China, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. Many of the deceased are middle-aged and elderly laborers who rely on manual work to make a living and often leave for work before dawn.

On May 16th, a pickup truck in Huanjiang County, Guangxi Province, plunged into a river at Manshui Bridge, resulting in the deaths of 10 people.

According to local media reports, on the day of the incident, a total of 28 villagers were hired to work in the area to plant sweet potatoes. After finishing work, 13 individuals returned on their own, while the remaining 15 rode back on the pickup truck involved in the accident.
