At least 3 dead, 2 injured in a fire at a chemical plant in Yumen, Gansu

At around 10:40 am on April 6, a fire broke out at Gansu Jinte Chemical Co., Ltd. in the Chemical Industrial Park of Yumen City, Gansu Province, resulting in at least 3 deaths and 2 injuries.

On April 7, the Yumen City Emergency Management Bureau issued the above notification. According to reports from China National Radio, the fire occurred in a three-story reinforced concrete building at the company. By 12:14 pm on the 6th, the fire was extinguished on the scene; by 12:57 pm, the search and rescue operation at the scene had ended.

Currently, the relevant personnel of the company involved have been detained by the public security authorities, and the two injured are receiving treatment, while the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Recently, mainland China has witnessed several chemical production safety accidents.

On April 1, during inspection and maintenance operations, there was a flash explosion at Jintai Fine Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. in Jinzhou Binhai Chemical Industry Park, Liaoning, resulting in 2 fatalities.

On the night of April 1, a roof collapse accident occurred at Zhongmei Guanjia Ya Coal Mine Co., Ltd. in Xingxian County, Shanxi Province, leading to the deaths of 4 miners who were trapped.

Additionally, according to the emergency management department of the Communist Party of China, in the first half of February 2026, there were several major and above incidents nationwide, leading to 71 deaths; in March, various production safety accidents caused another 44 deaths.

Some of the notable incidents include an explosion at Shanxi’s Jia Peng Biotechnology Co., Ltd. on February 7 during the illegal production of 2-nitro-3-methylbenzoic acid, resulting in 8 deaths and 3 injuries.

On March 31, there was an asphyxiation accident at Inner Mongolia’s Hulun Buir Dongneng Chemical Co., Ltd., resulting in 3 deaths and 1 injury.
