Walmart announced on Tuesday its 2025 Thanksgiving meal package, with an average price of less than $4 per person, setting a new low for the retailer since the launch of this program in 2022.
The ten-person meal package includes over 20 ingredients such as turkey, potatoes, stuffing mix, fried onions, pie crusts, boxed macaroni and cheese, and more. Last year, a similar meal package cost around $7 per person.
Customers can choose to purchase in physical stores or order online for pickup or delivery.
Just a week ago, the US branch of the German discount supermarket Aldi introduced a similar holiday promotion program.
As the peak holiday season approaches, major retailers in the United States are launching price campaigns to alleviate the pressure of ongoing inflation on ordinary families, especially low-income consumers, and spread goodwill.
The holiday shopping season in the US typically lasts from November through January of the following year, covering key spending days such as Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas. During this period, consumer spending significantly increases, and retailers seize the opportunity to launch promotional activities to boost annual sales.
Walmart raised its full-year outlook in August.
The company’s CEO in the US region stated last week that although its quarterly performance did not meet expectations for the first time in over three years, customer spending has remained resilient and maintained a healthy consumption pace.
