The 2025 Taiwan Traditional Children’s Games Festival, jointly organized by the National Taiwan Normal University Alumni Association (NTNUAA) and FASCA (Overseas Youth Cultural Ambassadors) led by Teacher Angela Weng, will take place on June 8th (Sunday) at the Taiwan Center in Flushing, New York.
This event will focus on Taiwan’s traditional children’s games and cultural experiences, inviting families from the New York, Long Island, and New Jersey areas to join in the fun. Classic games such as marbles, ring toss, bamboo dragonflies, paper fish catching, rice cake molding, stamping games, and puppet shows will be featured. Participants can collect stamps for completing games, and with enough stamps, they can exchange them for small gifts, allowing both adults and children to experience the vibrancy and warmth of Taiwanese culture through laughter and joy.
Chairman Chun-Huai Su of the Taiwan Center mentioned that in early Taiwan, resources were limited, and many people played simple traditional children’s games (shuttlecock, spinning tops, jump rope, marbles) and watched puppet shows during their childhood. The “Children’s Games Festival” holds deep and happy memories for many people. This is the first time the Taiwanese-American community in New York is hosting such an event, aiming to connect second and third-generation Taiwanese-Americans born in the U.S., introducing them to Taiwanese culture. People from different ethnic backgrounds are also welcome to participate and share the happiness together.
The event is coordinated by the Chief Planner Qinghua Ji and has received strong support and cooperation from various overseas community groups, including the Taiwan Center and Senior Center, Hello Taiwan, the World Chinese Business Women’s Management Association’s Greater New York and New Jersey chapters. FASCA youth volunteers will act as game leaders, guiding children in a “bigger kids leading the little kids” atmosphere to educate and entertain through games.
Chief Planner Qinghua Ji stated, “This event is not only a children’s game experience but also a cultural exchange extravaganza, allowing families from diverse backgrounds to participate, interact, and understand the value of Taiwanese culture together.”
Tickets are required for the event, online purchase: $12.5 USD (including fees), on-site purchase: $20 USD (cash only), ticketing website: https://shorturl.at/rGuEP. Each participant will receive a Taiwanese beverage (bubble tea, grass jelly/aiyu), and the Sushi King Wen-Chung Chun will be providing free shaved ice for everyone on-site; additionally, fried rice or noodles (choice of one) will be given as gifts.
Event Time: June 8th (Sunday) from 1 PM to 4 PM; Location: Taiwan Center, New York (137-44 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY); Target Audience: Children under 13 and their families, welcoming individuals from all cultural backgrounds to participate.
