President Ma visits Phoenix to witness the resolution in support of Taiwan.

Los Angeles – Ma Boyuan, the newly appointed director of the Los Angeles Texts Office, wasted no time in embarking on an intensive diplomatic journey upon assuming his post. In his first week, he traveled to Arizona for official visits and on Thursday (16th), he was invited to attend a joint event of the state’s House and Senate to witness the passage of a pro-Taiwan resolution, demonstrating bipartisan support for Taiwan.

This resolution marked the first time the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 was explicitly referenced, emphasizing that the resolution does not exclude Taiwan from participating in international organizations and does not authorize the People’s Republic of China to represent Taiwan. Additionally, the state legislature announced the establishment of a “Joint Legislative Taiwan Caucus” to facilitate exchanges and cooperation in various fields with Taiwan.

Tony Rivero, Chairman of the Arizona House International Trade Committee and chair of the Taiwan Caucus, along with Frank Carroll, Senate Majority Whip, welcomed Ma Boyuan and jointly declared their support for deepening U.S.-Taiwan relations, as well as collaborations in trade, technology, education, and official exchanges between Arizona and Taiwan.

The resolution reiterated support for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations including the United Nations, World Health Organization, International Civil Aviation Organization, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and Interpol, while emphasizing that Resolution 2758 should not be misused to exclude Taiwan from international participation.

Following the passage of the resolution, Ma Boyuan treated state legislators to Taiwanese snacks and bubble milk tea at the state Senate, fostering continued dialogue.

Rivero emphasized in his speech that the Taiwan issue in Arizona is not a political matter but a bipartisan and universally supported issue with great value and unity in the state legislature.

Carroll expressed anticipation for deepening cooperation in national security, educational exchanges, and providing more technical talent and engineering resources for the ongoing expansion of facilities for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company in the locality. He noted the rapid progress of related projects and was impressed by the investment and growth of Taiwanese companies.

In his address, Ma Boyuan expressed gratitude to the state House and Senate for their bipartisan support of Taiwan. He stated that in the face of a challenging international environment, Taiwan highly values the friendship and support demonstrated by Arizona. The resolution not only affirms Taiwan but also conveys a clear message to the international community: supporting Taiwan’s participation in organizations like the World Health Organization aligns with the core value of global public health without borders, demonstrating Taiwan’s capability to contribute to the international community.

He further emphasized that the resolution’s clear opposition to misinterpreting Resolution 2758 is crucial for promoting principles of fair and fact-based international participation, holding significant meaning for Taiwan.

Ma Boyuan also remarked that the passage of the resolution symbolizes a new phase in bilateral relations, looking forward to deepening cooperation between Taiwan and Arizona in high technology, semiconductors, trade, education, and culture in the future.

He extended special thanks for the assistance and efforts of the local Taiwanese community and recognized their dedication in preparing Taiwanese snacks, highlighting how food serves as a direct and warm connection of friendship. As the event concluded, he invited legislators and guests to celebrate with bubble milk tea, symbolizing the continuous deepening of Taiwan-Arizona relations and enduring friendship.
