New York State Democratic Party fully supports Hochul; 19 congress members unanimously endorse

In the period of the 2026 New York State gubernatorial election, the Democratic Party in New York showed a high degree of unity. Including House Democratic Leader Jeffries, all 19 Democratic members of Congress from New York have unanimously declared their support for the incumbent Governor Huo Chu’s reelection, adding another crucial political endorsement on the eve of the state party convention.

This joint statement was released as the Democratic Party held its state convention in Syracuse on Friday. Huo Chu successfully secured the nomination, defeating challenger and Lieutenant Governor Delgado.

In their joint statement, the members of Congress stated, “Governor Huo Chu unites our party and leads in defending the interests of New Yorkers and promoting real progress.” They expressed their commitment to fighting alongside Huo Chu to regain control of the House of Representatives in 2026.

The endorsement list carries significant weight, including House Democratic Leader Jeffries, progressive political figure Representative AOC, and Long Island Congressman Suozzi. It is noteworthy that Suozzi challenged Huo Chu in the Democratic primary four years ago.

New York City Mayor Mamdani also officially expressed his support for Huo Chu’s reelection in an article in The Nation magazine on Thursday. He admitted that the two sides “do not agree on all issues,” especially on taxing the wealthy, but he acknowledged Huo Chu’s standing up to Washington pressure to defend social safety nets and crucial infrastructure funding.

Mamdani pointed out that they have “jointly opened a new era of collaboration between Albany and City Hall,” shifting the focus from past internal conflicts and petty maneuvers to results-oriented actions.

If Huo Chu wins the Democratic primary on June 23, she is widely expected to defeat the Republican opponent and secure a second full term in the November election. On the Republican side, it is expected that they will field Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, endorsed by former President Trump.

Currently, Lieutenant Governor Delgado has not withdrawn from the race. If he can secure 25% of the delegate votes at the state party convention, he will directly qualify for the primary; otherwise, he will need to collect signatures from 15,000 registered Democratic voters by April 6. Delgado, considering himself a progressive, has criticized Huo Chu for refusing to tax the wealthy.

Huo Chu’s running mate, former City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, called for party unity, saying, “Now is not the time for distractions, but a moment for the Democratic Party to stand together and fight side by side.”
