New York Taiwan Association celebrated its 38th anniversary and annual fundraising dinner on November 24th with a “Taiwanese banquet” at the New York Taiwan Center. Congressman Meng Chaowen presented a congratulatory certificate to the association.
During the dinner, recognition was given to Amerasia Bank for their long-term support to the Taiwan Center and the Taiwanese-American community. The CEO and co-founder, Huang Zhihong, and the COO and Vice President, Jimmy Tsai, were thanked for their contributions.
Established in 1986, New York Taiwan Center is the first Taiwanese center in North America, also known as “the home of Taiwanese people.” Overcoming challenges with continuous donations from the local community, the center has become a cultural hub and platform for exchange within the Taiwanese-American community.
Chairman Su Chunhuai stated that this is a special moment filled with history and emotions. Since its establishment, the Taiwan Center has been dedicated to promoting Taiwanese culture and has witnessed the success of numerous community activities over its 38-year history. The center’s senior center and Taiwanese Mandarin learning center are thriving. In the future, the center aims to bring more enriching activities to the Taiwanese-American community, including cultural exhibitions, educational programs, social welfare services, and more, hoping that every member can find a sense of belonging here.
Congressman Meng Chaowen remarked that the Taiwan Center is the heart of the community, where young people can learn about Taiwanese culture and the elderly can engage in beneficial activities for their well-being, he specially commended the contributions of the Taiwan Center.
Director General Li Zhiqiang of the Economic and Cultural Office in New York mentioned that during his four months in office, he had multiple interactions with the Taiwan Center, including consular services held at the center which received positive feedback. He also shared good news that on the day of the 2024 World Baseball 12-strong Championship, Taiwan defeated Japan to win the championship, marking Taiwan’s first international baseball championship victory.
Deputy Director of Community Services Bureau of the Mayor’s Office, Gu Yaming, State Assemblyman Bronstein, State Senator Liu Chunyi, Councilwoman Huang Minyi, and Taiwanese-American Judge Lin Kailun of the New York State Supreme Court attended the dinner, congratulating the Taiwan Center on its 38 years of establishment.
The event featured several outstanding artists from Taiwan and the United States, including the AAPI Jazz Band, violinist Yang Dianlin from the Juilliard School, and pianist Shen Baijun, who presented a fantastic performance for the guests.
All fundraising proceeds from the evening were allocated towards renovations and operational funds for the Taiwan Center.
