New York City Police Department’s 5th precinct officer Christopher Spano, honored on May 23rd, retired with a grand farewell ceremony. Over 100 auxiliary officers, colleagues, and community members gathered at 7 p.m. in front of the 5th precinct station on Elizabeth Street to commemorate this unforgettable moment.
State Assemblywoman Grace Lee, City Councilman Chris Marte, and State Senator Carvanna’s office all presented commendations to thank Spano for his outstanding contributions. Commander Peter Tse of the Manhattan South Auxiliary Police Unit, along with Chinese-American 5th precinct auxiliary captain Tan Darong, Deputy Inspector Tsang Weikang, and Officer Lu Yuanlong, enthusiastically coordinated this event and sent their best wishes.
Officer Spano joined the NYPD in 2005 and served at the 5th precinct since 2006. His most well-known achievement was serving as an Auxiliary Police Instructor for Basic Training, personally training over 1,500 citizens to become qualified auxiliary officers over the course of ten years, injecting a great deal of enthusiasm into local public safety.
During his tenure as the 5th precinct auxiliary coordinator, he established and managed the city’s largest auxiliary police program, training hundreds of new recruits and promoting district-wide field training programs. His proactive work attitude, sound judgment, and enthusiastic community service earned him the respect and praise of colleagues and the community.
Spano holds a Bachelor of Police Studies from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and is a certified instructor in New York State. He has participated in various undercover operations, is proficient in anti-crime strategies, and specializes in surveillance technology, forged document identification, and automobile crime investigation. He actively promotes police-community cooperation, striving to enhance public safety and community trust, becoming an important bridge between the community and the police department.
