The Deputy Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Liu Chen, has been under investigation, only serving in this position for a few months.
On October 13th, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced that Liu Chen, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee’s Political and Legal Committee in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the autonomous region’s Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision.
There is limited publicly available information about Liu Chen. According to reports, in June 2017, Liu Chen was appointed as a member of the Xinjiang Hotan Prefectural Committee, and later served as a member of the Hotan Prefectural Committee, Secretary-General of the Prefectural Committee, concurrently as a member of the Hotan Prefectural Committee and Secretary of the Hotan County Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Prefectural Committee, among other positions; and in 2021, he was appointed as the Secretary of the Hotan Prefectural Committee.
In March of this year, public reports indicated that Liu Chen had resigned from the position of Secretary of the Hotan Prefectural Committee and was subsequently appointed as the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee’s Political and Legal Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, leading up to the current investigation.
Liu Chen is also a representative at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and a member of the 13th and 14th National People’s Congress of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
