Adele, the British queen of the music industry who is currently on tour in Germany, unexpectedly paused her performance at the exhibition center in Munich on the evening of the 3rd. She decided to project the women’s 100-meter sprint final at the Paris Olympics on the giant screens, turning the sports arena capable of accommodating 80,000 spectators into a massive viewing venue.
Starting from the 3rd of this month, Adele has been holding a series of 10 concerts in Munich, which is her only European tour in 2024. Despite the proximity to Paris, where the Olympics are taking place, she couldn’t physically be there to support her favorite athletes due to her work commitments.
Before taking the stage on the 3rd, the screens on the stage started showing the women’s 100-meter sprint semi-finals of the Olympics. During her performance, Adele suddenly paused halfway through, turned around to look at the large screen behind her. The screen, originally displaying her on stage, quickly changed to the competition footage with the words “LIVE FROM PARIS” flashing on the screen.
The race being broadcast was the women’s 100m final at the Olympic Games, featuring British athlete Daryll Neita. In the end, Saint Lucia’s athlete Julien Alfred clinched the gold medal with a time of 10.72 seconds, marking the country’s first-ever Olympic medal; silver and bronze went to American athletes Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson respectively. Neita, though falling short of a medal, achieved an impressive fourth-place finish.
Adele invited all the audience members to watch the Olympic broadcast together and encouraged everyone to applaud the athletes enthusiastically, exclaiming, “Saint Lucia is amazing!” before continuing her performance.
During the concert, Adele also added humor to entertain the audience. She mentioned how she sometimes critiques athletes’ performances, like commenting on a gymnastics competition with “her legs weren’t straight enough upon landing.” However, she also expressed admiration for these world-class athletes, jokingly saying, “I know, if I were to attempt anything they do, I would be dead for sure.” Her admiration and appreciation for the athletes’ performances were evident throughout the show.
