On May 2, 2026, a domestic flight operated by China Eastern Airlines landed in Shanghai and collided with a jet bridge upon arrival, fortunately, all passengers onboard were safe.
Videos circulating on the internet on May 2 showed the China Eastern Airlines flight MU5406 hitting a jet bridge at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport during the landing process.
Several netizens shared videos and posts on social media, reporting that a plane flying from Chengdu to Shanghai Hongqiao Airport collided with a jet bridge while docking, with the footage showing the airplane’s wings touching the bridge multiple times.
China Eastern Airlines released a statement saying that the aircraft experienced mechanical issues after landing, resulting in a minor collision with the jet bridge. All passengers were safe and were disembarked in an orderly manner. The specific cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
According to a report by the Chinese media outlet Yangcheng Evening News, passengers on the flight mentioned that the incident occurred after landing. One passenger stated, “There was a noticeable impact on the plane after landing, similar to turbulence caused by air currents, but not severe.” After disembarking, staff members provided passengers with QR codes for compensation claims.
In recent years, safety concerns regarding China Eastern Airlines have gained international attention.
On March 21, 2022, China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735 crashed in a mountainous area in Guangxi, resulting in the tragic loss of all 132 passengers on board. This incident marked the deadliest air disaster in China in nearly 30 years.
The National Transportation Safety Board of the United States revealed critical flight information leading up to the crash of China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735 on Thursday, April 30. This information, concealed by Chinese authorities for four years, was made public for the first time. In July 2022, a report submitted by the NTSB to the Chinese authorities clearly indicated that both engines of the aircraft were abruptly shut down and fuel extinguished at an altitude of 29,000 feet, which was identified as a key factor in the accident. The tragedy of the China Eastern Airlines crash resulted in the loss of all 132 passengers on board.
A senior aviation expert and professional pilot, Gao Fei, analyzed the latest NTSB report and told Epoch Times, “The report itself indicates that human factors led to the accident, treating all the passengers on the plane as sacrificial pawns.”
