President-elect Trump is set to meet with Republican lawmakers on Wednesday at the Capitol Hill, according to several U.S. media outlets citing sources familiar with the matter.
Republicans are eagerly awaiting the possibility of a trifecta, holding control of both chambers of Congress and the White House.
Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that Trump will meet with House Speaker Mike Johnson at Capitol Hill. It is also disclosed that the President-elect will address rank-and-file Republican members.
Politico and Punchbowl also covered Trump’s congressional meeting on Wednesday.
As per his public schedule, Trump will also travel to Washington D.C. on Wednesday to meet with President Joe Biden at the White House.
A source cited by Bloomberg mentioned that Johnson will head to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in southern Florida after their meeting in D.C.
The Republican majority in the House of Representatives is expected to be fragile – Trump has appointed at least two Republican lawmakers to government positions, making the challenge even more complex.
Multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday that the President-elect has chosen Florida Congressman Mike Waltz as the National Security Advisor and intends to nominate New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Upon assuming these roles, they will vacate their House seats, which will be filled following special elections.
The GOP has already secured control of the Senate in last week’s elections, with members preparing to elect a new majority leader. Florida Senator Rick Scott, a staunch Trump supporter, is competing against John Thune of South Dakota and John Cornyn of Texas for the position.
Both Thune and Cornyn have been long-time deputy leaders to outgoing Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell.
Trump has yet to indicate his support for any candidate in the Senate leadership contest.
