The World Chinese Business Women’s Association Southern California Chapter held a seminar titled “Walking through the World, Loving Taiwan More – Breaking the Life-and-Death Scene of Blockade” in Monterey Park on Sunday (9th), attracting nearly fifty overseas Chinese to participate.
Director Zhang Haokun of the Los Angeles Overseas Chinese Cultural and Educational Services Center, Chen Linghua, global vice president of the World Chinese Association, and Meng Xinyun, president of the Southern California Chapter, delivered speeches welcoming the visit of Taiwan’s veteran media personality and host of CTi TV’s “World News,” Chen Yalin, to Southern California. They commended her years of deep involvement in international news scenes and pursuit of truth in journalism.
With 34 years of news experience, Chen Yalin started as a grassroots reporter, serving as chief editor, editor-in-chief, news department manager, director of CTi TV News and acting general manager of CTi TV. She has accumulated rich experience in international news coverage and reporting on major events. She stated that after years of covering major international news around the world, personally entering war zones, disaster areas, and regions with restricted information, she has developed a deeper appreciation for Taiwan’s democracy, freedom, and human rights. Therefore, she chose the theme of her lecture this time as “Walking through the World, Loving Taiwan More.”
The event also featured sharing of life and career experiences by the 9th Golden Crown Award winners Teresa Dreyfuss and Chun Yen Chen.
Teresa Dreyfuss has long been dedicated to California higher education and currently serves as the president of Rio Hondo College. Born in Taiwan, she graduated from the Department of Journalism at the Chinese Culture University and moved to the United States in the 1970s, living and working in Los Angeles for over forty years. She has been invited three times to serve as the president of Rio Hondo College, promoting various educational reforms during her tenure. In 2016, she led the school to become one of the first community colleges in California authorized to offer four-year bachelor’s degrees.
Chun Yen Chen has been actively involved in public service within the Asian community and currently serves as the executive director of the Asian Pacific Community Fund, working to integrate community resources, enhance the visibility of the Asian community in mainstream American society, and promote related community services and charitable work.
Chen Linghua expressed that through Chen Yalin’s international news coverage experience and the sharing of the two Golden Crown Award winners, Teresa Dreyfuss and Chun Yen Chen, she hopes to show the overseas Chinese community in Southern California the professional achievements and social contributions of women in different fields. She also aims to stimulate thinking and discussion on the new challenges faced by journalism and social public engagement under the rapid changes brought about by AI and media evolution.
