Yang Jianxin, an official from the Huzhou Administration in Zhejiang, surrenders; he used to be an aide to Chen Weijun.

On June 5, 2026, Yang Jianxin, former party secretary and chairman of the Zhejiang Huzhou City Political Consultative Conference, turned himself in. Yang Jianxin had previously served as the deputy mayor of Huzhou City and had worked alongside two other disgraced vice-ministerial officials: Chen Weijun, the mayor and party secretary of Huzhou City at the time, and Ye Hanbing, the director of the Huzhou City Public Security Bureau.

According to a report from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission released on June 5, 2026, Yang Jianxin, the former party secretary and chairman of the Zhejiang Huzhou City Political Consultative Conference, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and laws, and has voluntarily surrendered to authorities for investigation.

Yang Jianxin, born in October 1960 in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, had a long career in the city, holding various positions such as deputy director of the Secretariat Office of the Huzhou City Committee, deputy director and director of the Office of Foreign Economic Commission in Huzhou City, deputy director and party committee member of the Foreign Economic Commission, deputy secretary of the Nanxun District Committee, executive deputy director, director, and party secretary of the Management Committee of the Huzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, secretary of the Deqing County Committee, and deputy secretary-general of the Huzhou City Government. He later served as the deputy mayor of Huzhou City in May 2007, was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the Huzhou City Committee and deputy mayor in February 2012, and became the chairman and party secretary of the Huzhou City Political Consultative Conference in April 2017.

It is worth noting that Yang Jianxin had worked alongside Chen Weijun, a former member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and executive vice chairman of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region government, who was removed from office on November 30, 2025.

Chen Weijun, born in June 1966 in Ninghai County, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, had a long history of serving in political positions in his hometown of Ningbo and in Zhejiang prior to his appointment to Xinjiang in May 2021. From January 2014 to February 2017, Chen Weijun served as deputy secretary of the Huzhou City Committee and mayor, overlapping with Yang Jianxin’s tenure as his deputy for three years.

Chen Weijun was promoted to secretary of the CPC Huzhou City Committee from March 2017 to February 2018, while Yang Jianxin was appointed as the chairman and party secretary of the Huzhou City Political Consultative Conference in April 2017, working alongside Chen Weijun for a year.

Chen Weijun was subordinate to Ma Xingrui, a member of the CPC Political Bureau who served as the secretary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Party Committee from the end of 2021 to June 2025. Meanwhile, Chen Weijun started serving as a member of the Standing Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Party Committee and executive vice chairman of the autonomous region government in June 2021. The two officials were stationed in Xinjiang for three and a half years.

There were previous reports indicating that the main reason for Chen Weijun’s downfall was related to his tenure in Wenzhou and Xinjiang. He aligned with Ma Xingrui, the then-secretary of Xinjiang, upon arriving in the region.

Additionally, Ye Hanbing, born in October 1965 in Sanmen County, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, who was the former director and party secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Public Security Department, had served as a member of the Huzhou City Committee and director of the Public Security Bureau from June 2004 to March 2009. During this period, Yang Jianxin, who was the secretary of the Deqing County Committee, was transferred to become the deputy secretary-general of the Huzhou City Government in October 2006 before being promoted to deputy mayor in May 2007. Yang Jianxin and Ye Hanbing had worked together in Huzhou City for nearly three years.
