EU Pays Tribute to the Victims on the 37th Anniversary of June 4th, Never Forget

On Thursday, June 4th, the official from the European Union stated that on the 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre by the Chinese Communist Party, they continue to pay tribute to the victims and will never forget.

The EU’s spokesperson for foreign affairs, Anouar El Anouni, released an official statement on social media X, saying, “China: on the 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, the EU continues to pay tribute to the victims and stands firmly with all those who defend human rights and basic freedoms. Their struggle for truth and justice must never be forgotten.”

In his post, Anouni specifically used the hashtag “Tiananmen Square massacre”.

Thirty-seven years ago today, on June 4, 1989, the CCP deployed military forces to violently disperse the peaceful protesters gathered in Tiananmen Square in the heart of Beijing. This bloody event ended weeks of anti-corruption protests and calls for political reform within the CCP.

Numerous protesters lost their lives, and even after 37 years, this crackdown remains a forbidden topic in China and even in Hong Kong.

On the day the EU spokesperson issued a commemorative speech marking the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square incident, it coincidentally was the first day of face-to-face trade negotiations between the EU and China in recent years.
