The incident sparked speculation among netizens, with some believing that the unidentified flying object was a fire meteor. However, after consulting with astrophysicist Dr. Liu Boyang, it was determined that it was likely the reconnaissance satellite “Cosmos 1674” launched on August 8, 1985, at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the Soviet Union. According to the last orbit data, it should have passed over Anhui, China around 8:45 p.m. last night.
Furthermore, a space science popularization account stated that around 8:45 p.m. on May 30, unidentified flying objects resembling a meteor shower appeared in the night sky in Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shandong, and other areas, creating a fiery glow.
Netizens from Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, and other regions posted videos claiming to have seen unidentified flying objects in the night sky.
A netizen from Anhui posted, “On the evening of the 30th, in the northern sky above the Anhui Agricultural University campus in Hefei, I saw what seemed like a fire meteor, dragging a long tail, lasting for nearly 10 seconds. It appeared to be moving slowly, unlike a typical meteor that is fast.”
