In a recent announcement by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the winner of the 2026 “Greenest Block in Brooklyn” competition was revealed. Lincoln Street in Crown Heights took the crown as the greenest street in Brooklyn. This particular street has a remarkable gardening community, having previously won the championship in 2019, 2022, and 2024, making this year’s victory a repeat performance.
It is worth noting that the neighborhood’s gardening skills are extraordinary, with the street showcasing exceptional greenery. This year marked the 30th anniversary of the competition, attracting 139 streets from across the area to participate. After careful evaluation by experts from the botanic garden and horticultural professionals, the winners in various categories were announced.
In the residential street category, the winners were as follows: First Place – Lincoln Street in Crown Heights; Second Place (tied) – Jefferson Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Ridge Boulevard in Bay Ridge; Third Place – East 92nd Street in Canarsie.
The greenest street in the commercial district was Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights, while the best community garden view was awarded to A Patch of Inspiration Garden in Brownsville.
A special Sustainable Practices Award was given to The Greene Garden in Fort Greene.
The “Greenest Block in Brooklyn” competition was initiated in 1996 with the aim of promoting street greening, tree care, and fostering stronger connections between neighborhoods. Aside from cash prizes and honor certificates, all participating groups received bulb gift packages for the fall season.
