The first “UK-US Strategic Dialogue” between Britain and the United States reiterated the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait in a joint statement. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that Taiwan will work together with democratic partners to defend the international order.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held the first “UK-US Strategic Dialogue” in London on September 10, and issued a joint statement on the 14th, emphasizing the indispensability of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait for the overall security and prosperity of the international community, calling for a peaceful resolution to cross-strait issues.
Blinken stated at a press conference that the discussions also revolved around joint efforts to ensure peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, as well as freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea. “For both of us, maintaining peace and stability, and preserving the status quo is crucial. This is not only important to us but to countries all over the world.”
The British Foreign Office stated that this new strategic dialogue framework will deepen the “special (close partnership) relationship” between the UK and the US since the Second World War, with plans for annual meetings in the future.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expressed sincere appreciation for the continued attention and concern from like-minded countries such as the UK and the US for the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region as a whole.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) pointed out, “As a responsible member of the international community, our country will continue to work hand in hand with all like-minded democratic partners to defend the rules-based international order and promote regional peace, stability, and prosperity.”
