President Biden Votes Early in Delaware on Monday

On October 29, 2024, United States President Biden cast his early vote in Delaware. With just over a week left until election day, his chosen successor, Harris, and former rival Trump are locked in a tight race for the White House.

Over the weekend, Biden vacationed in Wilmington, Delaware, and on Monday he cast his ballot nearby before returning to the White House.

Accompanied by Lisa Blunt Rochester, the Democratic candidate for United States Senator from Delaware and a member of the House of Representatives, Biden visited the polling station on Monday.

“We’re going to vote,” he said. After waiting in line for early voting, when asked by the media if this moment was bittersweet, Biden replied, “It’s sweet.” He also expressed confidence in Vice President Harris’s victory.

Four years ago, Biden narrowly won the election with a slight advantage in the 2020 race. In 2024, running for reelection as the Democratic candidate, he performed poorly in the first presidential debate in June against his opponent, former President Trump. Subsequently, he withdrew from the race in July and endorsed Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate.

Since then, Biden has mostly stayed out of the limelight and participated minimally in campaign activities, possibly to give voters more opportunities to get to know his successor. At the same time, Harris has been working hard to strike a balance—aligning with the success of the Biden administration while differentiating herself from policies that are unpopular with voters.

According to a poll by CBS News on Sunday, Harris and Trump are tied in battleground states, with Harris leading Trump by one percentage point nationwide.
