Bosco Wong checks in at Dallas, wins praise for promoting Taiwanese language advocacy.

In recent years, Hong Kong actor Dicky Cheung, who has settled in Taiwan, shared a photo of himself dressed in denim on Facebook early on the 16th. Currently in Dallas, USA, he jokingly mentioned that he started a ketogenic diet after the Mid-Autumn Festival to avoid gaining weight when he returns to Taiwan; as he follows the “16/8 fasting method” for weight loss with great discipline, he also hopes not to lose too much weight that he can’t even perform upon his return to Taiwan. The mention of “returning to Taiwan” in his post was instantly praised by Taiwanese netizens.

Dicky Cheung, who is currently in Dallas, USA, posted a picture of himself in denim early on the 16th Taiwan time on Facebook. He humorously stated that he started a ketogenic diet after the Mid-Autumn Festival to avoid gaining weight when he comes back to Taiwan, jokingly saying he’s already “too fat to get any fatter,” with the key reason being that he needs to keep fit for his performances.

When sharing his recent situation, Dicky Cheung also mentioned that he now replaces breakfast with a cup of Bulletproof coffee in the morning, avoids starch and sugar, even quit drinking diet sodas for weight loss, and only drinks water every day, following the “16/8 fasting method (fasting for 16 hours in a day, and consuming food within an 8-hour window).” He concluded his post by saying, “I hope not to lose so much weight that I can’t even perform upon my return, haha!” The declaration of “returning to Taiwan” instantly garnered numerous praises.

In fact, on October 9th, Dicky Cheung checked in from the USA and posted early wishes for the National Day of the Republic of China, Taiwan’s “Double Ten Festival.” However, his message seemed to carry a hidden message as he wrote, “Wishing the beautiful Taiwan, Happy Birthday Republic of China,” seemingly alluding to a previous incident where Taiwanese actor Wu Kang-jen congratulated China’s “National Day” using the phrase “Wishing the beautiful China.”

Wu Kang-jen, who has been active in the Taiwanese entertainment industry in recent years and won the Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards with his film “A Sun,” has confirmed his signing with mainland China’s “Yixin Entertainment” recently, hinting at a new phase by stating, “I am no longer alone in the days to come.” During China’s National Day, he reposted official media posts from the Chinese Communist Party on Weibo and wrote, “Wishing the beautiful China” for the “task.” Despite seemingly avoiding sensitive terms, this action still disappointed many Taiwanese netizens, with some mainland netizens also expressing discontent, especially those supporting the Chinese government, as Wu Kang-jen had previously participated in the “Sunflower Student Movement.”

At the age of 52, Dicky Cheung moved from Hong Kong to Taiwan in November 2020 following the swift enactment of the controversial “Hong Kong version of the National Security Law” by the Chinese authorities and obtained Taiwanese citizenship in 2022. He greatly values Taiwan’s freedom and democracy and has been thriving in the country. Apart from running an entertainment company, creating his brand, he also established the non-profit organization “Taiwan-Hong Kong Cultural Exchange Association” and set up scholarships to support Hong Kong students studying in Taiwan.

Since settling in Taiwan, Dicky Cheung has often expressed his views on cross-strait issues. When remarks were made that his life in Taiwan was extravagant due to his successful career in the country, he stated that he was demonstrating how to “stand tall” and “live well without bowing down or compromising,” indirectly criticizing the Chinese Communist Party’s coercion of Taiwanese artists to act as puppets for their united front tactics.
