【Epoch Times, August 8, 2026】Former director of the Chinese energy equipment giant, Dongfang Electric Group, Song Zhiyuan, is under investigation.
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission announced on August 8th that Song Zhiyuan is being investigated for “serious violations of discipline and the law.”
Public records show that Song Zhiyuan was born in September 1964. In his earlier career, he served as the director of the Liaoning Provincial Institute of Food Science. He also held positions such as deputy general manager of the Shenyang Branch of the China Grain Reserves Corporation, deputy general manager of the Liaoning Branch, general manager of the Liaoning Branch, and director of the Purchasing and Sales Planning Department of the headquarters. Song has also served as the chairman and party secretary of the China Grain Reserves Corporation’s China Grain Reserves Logistics Co., Ltd., deputy general manager of the China Grain Reserves Corporation, and director of the China Grain Reserves Management Group Co., Ltd.
Song Zhiyuan has been a director of China Dongfang Electric Group Co., Ltd. since October 2021 and a director of Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited since February 2023.
On March 14, 2025, Dongfang Electric announced that Song Zhiyuan had reached the statutory retirement age and would no longer serve as a director or in any other capacity within the company.
Information on the official website of China Dongfang Electric Group Co., Ltd. indicates that the company was founded in 1958 and is a key state-owned enterprise centrally managed by the Communist Party of China. It is one of the world’s largest groups of energy equipment manufacturing companies.
Several officials of Dongfang Electric Group have been investigated in the past.
In 2015, Zhang Tiande, former executive vice general manager of Dongfang Motor Co., Ltd., Li Jun, assistant general manager, and Zhang Shengping, former assistant general manager of Dongfang Turbine Company, were investigated for corruption related to material procurement.
In 2018, An Hui, former chief economist of Dongfang Electric Group Wind Power Co., Ltd., was under investigation.
In 2020, Wang Peng, former deputy director of the marketing department of Dongfang Electric Group, among others, was investigated.
In recent years, Tan Bin, general manager of the Boiler Electric Power Service Business Division, Yan Bin, former manager of the Europe and Russia region at Hong Hua (China) Investment Co., Ltd., the party branch secretary of Dongfang Electric Group Large Item Logistics Co., Ltd., and general manager Fu Wei have all been implicated in corruption cases.
