Pakistan Prime Minister: US-Iran agreement may be finalized within 24 hours

On June 13, 2026, Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who plays a crucial role in mediating between the United States and Iran, stated on Saturday that the U.S.-Iran peace agreement may be finalized within 24 hours.

Sharif took to the social media platform X to post, “We are closer than ever to reaching a peace agreement. The final text may be hammered out within the next 24 hours, with Pakistan preparing to immediately hold an electronic signing ceremony following that and technical level talks scheduled for next week.”

Pakistan has been a key mediator in the negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.

“We appreciate the continued commitment of the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran during the negotiations, and sincerely thank the support of our neighboring countries in the region. We are confident that this historic peace agreement will lay a solid foundation for lasting peace,” Sharif said.

On Friday, June 12, the Pakistani Prime Minister refuted various false information circulating online that aimed to disrupt the U.S.-Iran agreement. He posted on the platform X that it could be confirmed that the United States and Iran have reached consensus on the final text of the peace agreement. He mentioned that Pakistan is currently closely collaborating with both parties to finalize the next steps.

A source familiar with the matter told CNN that it is expected that both the U.S. and Iran will electronically sign the agreement no later than Sunday, and it could even happen sooner. The source stated that all parties involved are eager to complete the signing process swiftly to ensure that the peace process remains on track without any disruptions.

Although the specific terms of the agreement have not been made public, a senior U.S. official held a phone press briefing on Friday, June 12, and disclosed some aspects of the agreement. This includes reopening the Hormuz Strait, lifting the U.S. maritime blockade on Iran, dismantling Iran’s nuclear projects, and on-site destruction of Iran’s enriched uranium.

The official further revealed that this preliminary agreement also “guarantees long-term peace in the region,” preventing Iran from sponsoring terrorism and violent activities. Iran has also committed to “never acquire or develop nuclear weapons indefinitely,” hence the agreement will establish verification and enforcement mechanisms to ensure Iran fulfills its commitments.
