On December 2nd, the Flushing Chinese Business Association (FCBA) announced that on February 21st, 2026, which falls on the fifth day of the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Horse, they will hold the annual Flushing Chinese New Year Parade. Community organizations and groups who wish to participate can sign up starting from now.
The FCBA’s chief advisor, Peter Du, mentioned that the Flushing Chinese New Year Parade is the grandest community event in the area, highly regarded by various levels of officials, organizations, and the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
At a press conference, Community Liaison Officer Huang Lingqin from the 109th Precinct of the NYPD introduced the parade route: starting from the 109th Precinct entrance, heading south along Union Street to Sanford Avenue, then turning north along Main Street until ending in front of Queens Crossing Building.
It is important for the public to note that starting from midnight on the previous day (February 20th), police will designate no-parking signs along the parade route, and any vehicles parked there will be towed away.
“We expect over 100 vehicles to be towed,” Officer Huang stated. “Your car will be towed but not fined; you can either search nearby or call 311.”
As with every year, the parade will kick off promptly at 11 am and only allows units to display the American flag. Registration for participation in the parade is now open and includes categories for floats, other vehicles, and marching groups. Different forms are required for float teams versus walking groups. The rental price for a float is $3,500. Registration forms can be downloaded from the FCBA website and submitted to the association’s office.
Various representatives within the Flushing community have expressed their hopes for a successful parade. Precinct Commander Kevin Coleman mentioned that the Chinese New Year Parade is the largest event in the 109th Precinct’s jurisdiction, with over 10,000 participants and up to 100,000 spectators.
“I’m thrilled that for the past two years, we’ve been able to smoothly organize the parade without any incidents,” he said. “We plan to maintain this record this year and in 2026. The Flushing parade is the most significant event for our 109th Precinct each year, with its remarkable scale and the overwhelming number of spectators and participants. Therefore, we will be preparing with our intelligence and counter-terrorism units to ensure the safety of everyone and the smooth operation of the parade,” Coleman stated.
Councilwoman Minnie Wong emphasized the importance of the New Year Parade, particularly for the younger generation.
“As an immigrant, I have many fond memories of the Lunar New Year from my childhood,” she said. “We need more of these celebratory events to honor our culture, our history, our roots… This will become a new memory for the younger generation and a way to pass down our cultural heritage.”
State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, Councilwoman Linda Lee, along with numerous group representatives have all expressed their intention to participate in this grand parade.
