In Heilongjiang, a truck driver named Yu passed away suddenly while delivering goods at a highway service area in Guizhou. Yu had purchased the delivery truck in June this year, taking out a loan to do so in order to save up for his daughter’s university tuition fees as she was currently a high school senior. Over the past four months, he had been working tirelessly and only managed to visit his family twice during this period.
Many netizens expressed sorrow over his untimely passing. Several online videos were shared showing the scene of the incident where Yu was found dead with his body already stiff and no signs of breathing.
Yu’s wife, Ms. Tan, told Red Star News that on October 17th, he set out at 10 p.m. to transport fruits. They last contacted each other at 1 a.m. on the 18th. However, when Ms. Tan tried calling him again around 9 a.m., she received no response. Concerned, she sought help from the 4S shop where they had purchased the truck, and with the assistance of the shop staff using navigation tracking, it was discovered that the truck was at the Qinglong service area in Guizhou. Ms. Tan then called emergency services for help. Medical personnel who arrived at the scene found Yu in a state of “severe coma” inside the vehicle, and he was soon pronounced dead.
Surveillance footage from the Qinglong service area showed that Yu briefly got off the truck after entering the service area, but did not disembark again after getting back in around 5 a.m. on the 18th until he was discovered by the authorities.
The local police and health center issued a death certificate stating that Yu, a 45-year-old resident of Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang, passed away due to “sudden death, cause unknown”.
Ms. Tan mentioned that her husband was in good health with no known medical conditions, attributing his passing to exhaustion from his strenuous work as a truck driver, where he only returned home twice in four months.
She revealed that she worked in a school cafeteria, while their daughter was in her final year of high school. Yu had taken out a loan to buy the truck in June, making a down payment of over 20,000 yuan. Their daughter was about to enter university, and his sudden departure came as a shock.
In recent years, incidents of truck drivers passing away suddenly due to overwork have been reported frequently. Many netizens lamented over the news, expressing sympathy for the hardships faced by individuals like Yu who work tirelessly to provide for their families.
