California housing market fuels construction materials industry, Chinese flooring businesses flexibly arrange supply chain.

California’s housing market has shown signs of rebound recently, with both sales volume and prices seeing an increase in October. However, the overall market is still impacted by high housing prices and interest rate fluctuations, with significant regional differences. Despite a slight decrease in housing prices in the past few months, most industry experts expect a moderate rise in 2026.

As the real estate market in the United States remains active, there is still strong demand for new residential construction, especially in California. Lin Jianliang, a flooring supplier, mentioned that despite the persistent high housing prices, developers have not slowed down in their construction pace. Instead, they are placing orders in advance with manufacturers to ensure an adequate supply of flooring inventory for their projects.

Having been in the flooring business in Los Angeles for over a decade, Lin Jianliang stated that he has had to adapt to the ongoing challenges of high U.S.-China tariffs. His company has factories in China, Thailand, and Vietnam and has been adjusting its supply chain and pricing strategies flexibly in accordance with U.S. tariff policies. His major clients include developers and retail stores, and he provides wholesale services through a nationwide distributor network.

Currently, the largest demand for flooring from Lin Jianliang’s company is concentrated in California, primarily due to its high population, numerous housing projects, and well-established local flooring supply teams. While there are distributors in other states as well, the order volume there is relatively limited compared to California. The products he distributes mainly include SPC waterproof flooring, 12mm laminate waterproof flooring, and solid wood flooring.

Lin Jianliang noted that most developers still prefer dark tones or natural wood grain styles, with solid wood and engineered wood flooring being quite popular. To meet specific project requirements, he also offers custom-made styles to satisfy the demands of high-end residences for quality and durability.

He introduced SPC waterproof flooring as one of the most popular environmentally friendly flooring materials in recent years. Made primarily from natural stone powder and high-molecular-weight resins, SPC flooring is formed by high-temperature extrusion, offering characteristics such as durability, waterproofing, moisture resistance, and strong stability. It is also known as stone plastic composite flooring.

SPC flooring features a lock installation design that allows for quick laying without the need for glue, suitable for residential properties, commercial spaces, schools, healthcare facilities, and retail spaces. Its surface is treated with a UV-resistant wear layer, providing scratch resistance, anti-slip properties, and stain resistance while retaining the natural texture of wood or stone, ensuring both aesthetics and functionality.

Due to its complete waterproof feature, SPC flooring is particularly suitable for areas with high humidity such as kitchens, bathrooms, and basements. In comparison to traditional wood or laminate flooring, it is more resistant to temperature and humidity changes, less likely to deform or swell, making it an ideal choice for environmentally friendly, comfortable, and durable flooring material.

The 12mm laminate waterproof flooring uses high-density fiberboard (HDF) as its core, combined with multiple moisture-resistant layers and a wear-resistant top layer, providing a solid texture and waterproof durability.

Compared to the typical 8mm or 10mm flooring, the 12mm thickness offers better stability, sound insulation, and foot comfort. Its waterproof layer and sealed locking design effectively prevent water seepage, making it suitable for high-traffic areas such as commercial spaces. The surface of this flooring is coated with a scratch-resistant layer, resisting daily wear and tear, preserving the natural wood grain texture and tactile sensation, satisfying consumers’ pursuit of durability, environmental friendliness, and high cost-efficiency.

Lin Jianliang believes that the U.S. residential market still faces supply shortages, especially notable in California, thus the construction and related supply chains continue to thrive.
