Murder suspect in Zhuhai borrows 200,000 yuan to buy a car and scouts the scene beforehand

Shocking Incident of SUV Ramming into Pedestrians at Zhuhai Sports Center for Retaliation

The incident involving an SUV ramming into pedestrians at the Zhuhai Sports Center has stunned both domestic and international audiences. The vehicle involved is a large off-road vehicle with a width of nearly two meters, which the perpetrator purchased a week before the incident and picked up the day before. A security guard revealed that the vehicle involved had visited the scene the day before the attack, indicating that the perpetrator had premeditated the act of ramming into people.

According to the police report, on the day of the incident, a 62-year-old driver surnamed Fan drove a “small SUV,” forcefully breaking through the gates of the sports center and heading towards the citizens exercising inside.

Online sources disclosed that the vehicle involved is a BJ40 Pioneer Edition off-road vehicle under the Beijing Automotive brand, purchased by the driver a week before the incident and picked up on November 10th, the day before the incident.

A salesperson named Huang at the Beijing Automotive dealership in Zhuha’s Galaxy Senbao confirmed to the “Lianhe Zaobao” that a man surnamed Fan had recently bought a car, stating, “We were all shocked to learn the news, buying a car to hit people is something that has never happened before.”

According to Mr. Huang, Fan purchased a tough off-road vehicle priced at 200,000 RMB, with a 2000cc turbocharged engine and a body width of 1925 millimeters, boasting strong off-road capabilities and a sturdy body structure. Fan bought this off-road vehicle through a loan.

Mr. Huang also mentioned that Fan displayed normal behavior during the car purchase, showing no difference from other customers.

A security guard on duty at the scene revealed that the off-road vehicle that rammed into the crowd had been parked in a parking area near the electronic lifting barrier outside the sports center since the day before the incident on November 10th, possibly “staking out” the location. During the incident, the locally registered vehicle with a “粤C” license plate crashed through the electronic barrier and into the crowd on the track, circled inside the sports center, and then fled the scene, only to be apprehended a few hundred meters away at the nearest exit gate.

According to a close relative of a witness to the incident, the vehicle circled the track outer perimeter for a lap or two before indiscriminately plowing into the crowd, with people running and walking on the inner track at the time.
