Man from Shaanxi Dies Suddenly While Participating in Kindergarten Parent-Child Marathon at the Young Age of 36

On June 16, 2026, the first kindergarten in the city of Zhashui County, Shangluo City, Shaanxi Province organized a “Parent-Child Mini Marathon” on Children’s Day. During the event, a 36-year-old parent suddenly collapsed and died despite rescue efforts being ineffective.

According to a report from Dahe Daily on June 16, the sister of the deceased, Dong Rui, stated that the route for the senior class group was approximately 5 kilometers, with most of the route on the embankment fitness trail. Surveillance footage showed that at 8:21 am, Dong Duan suddenly clutched his chest while running and collapsed after taking two steps.

Dong Rui mentioned that after her brother collapsed, no one at the scene was able to provide professional assistance immediately. It wasn’t until bystanders on the side of the road called emergency services at 120 to summon medical personnel.

The family believes that the kindergarten did not fulfill its safety obligations during the entire event. Although the designated ambulance was about 500 meters away from the incident location, it did not act promptly, causing Dong Duan to miss the “golden four minutes” window for rescue. Furthermore, the liability waiver agreement was signed by an elderly person on behalf of Dong Duan, who did not sign it personally.

A “Resident Death Medical Certificate (Inference)” issued by Zhashui County People’s Hospital indicated that the cause of death was “sudden death.” The death occurred in the emergency rescue room of Zhashui County People’s Hospital. The medical history in the emergency department’s medical records mentioned Dong Duan’s past medical history as “history of hypoglycemia; history of heart disease; details unspecified.”

This tragic incident has sparked discussions on the importance of prompt and effective emergency response measures, as well as the need for better safety protocols during public events to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The family is seeking answers and accountability for the loss of their loved one, highlighting the significance of prioritizing safety and preparedness in all community activities.
