Recently, a video titled “Village Party Secretary Ren Mouping of Shuiyu Village, Daixian, Shanxi, uses a bulldozer to bury a villager” has been circulating on mainland Chinese internet platforms, sparking outrage online. In the video, a villager is half buried in the soil while a man drives a bulldozer to continuously push the soil over them.
According to a report by the Xinjing News, on April 24, officials from Daixian confirmed that the incident occurred on April 16. The confrontation escalated due to a land dispute. Ren Mouping, the man driving the bulldozer, served as the Village Party Secretary of Shuiyu Village from 2005 to 2015.
Fortunately, the buried villager was rescued in time and did not sustain any injuries. The day after the incident, the former Village Party Secretary Ren Mouping was criminally detained by the authorities in Daixian, Shanxi.
Mainland Chinese netizens expressed anger, condemning the shocking incident where the Village Party Secretary used a bulldozer to bury a villager in broad daylight.
Netizens also raised doubts about the suspicious points in the video: Why were there several people in uniform present at the scene watching the incident unfold without intervening to stop Ren Mouping’s violent actions?
Prominent blogger “Yue Guanghui Brother” commented that regardless of the intensity of the dispute, burying someone with a bulldozer is far beyond the bounds of normal behavior and constitutes a severe criminal offense. Details such as Ren Mouping’s mindset at the time and whether he truly intended to put the villager’s life at risk should be explained to the public and justice should be served for the frightened villagers.
The article highlighted that this incident not only exposed potential land management issues in certain regions but also reflected the serious consequences that extreme behavior by some individuals can bring about in the escalation of grassroots conflicts. The barbaric method used by a village official to settle disputes shows a blatant disregard and insult to the lives of the villagers.
