Today’s Focus: More high-ranking officials fall from power, chaos in Zhongnanhai; Yang Lanlan and Yu Menglong create major upheaval; social security, wage arrears, unemployment, anti-government protests surging in mainland China, society in disorder.
Guests of this issue: Senior political and economic analyst Qin Peng. Hosts: Jin Shi, Fu Yao.
In the previous issue, we commented on five major international events, but Chinese friends still tend to be more concerned about various events in mainland China.
In the dead of night one day this year, driving a 1-million-dollar Rolls-Royce in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia, a 23-year-old woman named Yang Lanlan crashed into a Mercedes-Benz business car. Yang Lanlan, who is about to turn 24 soon, is she still visible to the public?
Once the incident was exposed, the entire internet was asking, “Who is Yang Lanlan exactly?”
So, on the way to court, major media reporters and the public flocked to see her, wanting to catch a glimpse of her appearance. However, Yang Lanlan only appeared a few times, always wearing hats and masks, making it hard to identify her true face.
Why would a young woman who owns a coastal mansion, luxury cars, and a house filled with extravagance attract so much curiosity? Rumors quickly spread, stating things like “Xi Jinping’s illegitimate daughter,” “Xi Jinping’s brother Xi Yuanping’s daughter,” “secretly brought back to China by CCP Politburo member Zhao Leji,” and the like.
Mr. Qin Peng, you once thought that Yang Lanlan must have an extraordinary background. Do you still think so now?
Jin Shi, many Chinese people were shocked by the news about Yang Lanlan’s luxury cars, mansion, and lavish attire. Did you find that news incredulous at the time?
Another grassroots event that shocked the internet in 2025 was the death of Yu Menglong.
From the footage circulating among the public before Yu Menglong fell from the building to the subsequent exposure of the news about the red descendants manipulating power in the entertainment industry by netizens, as well as the step-by-step investigation by spiritualists and friends studying ancient secret arts, netizens are wondering, is Yu Menglong’s death not just an isolated “wrongful death case,” but rather revealing shady dealings within the entertainment industry.
Coincidentally, before the September 3rd military parade, Xi Jinping joked with Russian President Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un about their “aspiration to live to 150 years old” and mentioned “organ transplants.” This woke up the Chinese people to the fact that organ transplants among high-ranking CCP officials to prolong life are real. So, does “organ trafficking” also really exist?
Discussing about the Yu Menglong case from the fans’ initial attention to the huge impact of the netizens’ search for the truth, making it seem incredibly incomprehensible. Official reports claimed Yu Menglong passed away on September 11th due to a “fall after drinking,” but a hundred days have passed, and the truth remains unclear, with the whereabouts of Yu’s family members unknown.
Do you think we will be able to see the truth?
The anti-government protests in mainland China this year appear to be intensifying year by year.
Firstly, there was the “Jiangyou Incident in Sichuan,” which shook social media platforms domestically and internationally. A 14-year-old girl was abused by local officials’ children and did not receive fair treatment, sparking large-scale protests by the public that local police and stability maintenance personnel couldn’t contain. This incident seems like a microcosm of the two extremes in society between CCP officials and ordinary citizens.
In Hainan, a conflict erupted between police and civilians due to a state-owned enterprise’s staff secretly cutting down betel nut trees belonging to farmers.
The Guizhou government faced public resistance for forcefully promoting a “cremation policy,” with people shouting, “If the Communist Party wants to excavate ancestral graves, start with X Jinping’s family’s graves!”
The “House of Freedom” website, which focuses on China’s livelihood issues, discovered that in just the third quarter of this year, there were nearly 50% more protest events in mainland China compared to the same period. The continuous rise in rights protection and protest events is overwhelming.
Discussing the increasing intensity of the mainland China’s agitation under strong suppression, it seems that everyone is at risk. What has been the state of the Chinese economy over the past year?
For those following CCP’s political scene, the highlight was undoubtedly the Fourth Plenary Session held this year. While the session did take place, it constantly surprised and puzzled people.
Just before the session, the Ministry of National Defense of China announced the fall of nine senior generals, including the Vice Chairman of the Military Commission He Weidong, the Director of the Political Work Department of the Military Commission Miao Hua, and the Deputy Director of the Political Work Department of the Military Commission He Hongjun, along with Wang Xiubin, Lin Xiangyang, Qin Shutong, Yuan Huazhi, Wang Houbin, and Wang Chunning, causing a military upheaval.
Although the official reasons given were “anti-corruption,” the public had various speculations.
Jin Shi, what versions have you come across?
Mr. Qin Peng, the fall of nine senior generals is unprecedented. What kind of impact will this power shift have on the military, and what political signal does it convey?
The news of nine senior generals falling from their positions directly relates to the origin of the “purge” order. The highest-ranking CCP official openly bears the utmost scrutiny. Of course, this concerns the health of the aging Xi Jinping.
Even if Xi Jinping truly wishes to live to 150 years old, people have noticed that since the Third Plenary Session last year, the CCP leader Xi Jinping has appeared weary, leading many to be concerned about his health. This year’s grand military parade raised discussions once again about Xi Jinping’s physical condition.
In an authoritarian regime, the leader’s health determines the direction of the party’s power.
Various rumors from within the Beijing leadership have been circulating constantly, with the most lively discussion being about the messages regarding “the elder statesmen and the current Deputy Chairman of the Military Commission, Zhang Youxia, conspiring to seize power.” This was due to Xi Jinping frequently staying out of the public eye during that period and a shift in the official praise to a more reserved tone.
Previously, “The Epoch Times” had obtained inside information stating that Xi Jinping greatly believes in prophecies. He firmly believes that the person bearing the “bow” mentioned in the Chinese book of prophecy “Tui Bei Tu,” is someone close to him. The numerous clean-ups he initiated were actually to eliminate future troubles and protect his life and fortune.
Therefore, the name “Zhang Youxia,” bearing “bow,” a military “warrior,” has been humorously regarded by the public as the prophesied individual.
However, after the “Beidaihe Conference” this summer, there seemed to be a slight relaxation in the power distribution, and Xi Jinping gradually came out to dispel rumors.
Although the Fourth Plenary Session was convened, it did not answer many people’s lingering questions, such as who holds power within Zhongnanhai, which remains a mystery?
