This year marks the 37th anniversary of the “June 4th” incident. Epoch Times has exclusively obtained over two thousand previously unreleased historical photos of the “June 4th” event, shedding light on those years that the Chinese Communist Party has been trying to conceal and erase.
In the spring and summer of 1989, a student democracy movement that shook the world ignited in Tiananmen Square in Beijing and quickly spread across China. Millions of students and civilians took to the streets, peacefully and rationally expressing their opposition to corruption, and advocating for democracy and freedom. However, the top Chinese Communist Party officials secretly mobilized a large number of regular troops and launched a comprehensive crackdown on civilians using tanks and machine guns in the early hours of June 4th. According to unofficial estimates, the CCP shot and killed several thousand to tens of thousands of people.
An official photographer who was present at the scene during that time fully documented this period of history, and the rolls of film he shot have been gathering dust for 37 years. In the twilight of his life, this elderly man entrusted Epoch Times with this precious collection of photos, which include both color and black-and-white images, totaling over 2000. Recently, the CCP authorities have been threatening and harassing individuals they believe are associated with these photos, including Chinese citizens and American citizens.
For 37 years, the CCP has continued to cover up and suppress the truth of the incident, smearing the students’ peaceful demonstration as “counter-revolutionary riot,” and denying the fact that the military opened fire on civilians. However, history will not disappear because of censorship.
To fulfill the late man’s wishes, Epoch Times is releasing this 37-year-old collection of “June 4th” photos publicly for the first time in batches, guiding readers back to that heartbreaking historical scene, reminding the world not to forget the CCP’s bloody massacre of its own people. The CCP continues to intensify its persecution and intimidation of innocent people, including threatening Epoch Times staff not to publish these photos.
On April 15, 1989, former General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, Hu Yaobang, died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 73, triggering the “June 4th Tiananmen Incident.”
