The new Doraemon film embarks on a grand adventure with “music” as the theme.

“Doraemon” the 43rd movie version “Movie Doraemon: Symphony of Nobita’s Earth” will be released in July in Taiwan. Recently, the Mandarin trailer has been unveiled. Directed by Kazuaki Imai, the film embarks on a grand adventure with the theme of a “world where music disappears.”

Director Imai revealed that the idea for this film was actually inspired by the global Covid-19 pandemic a few years ago. During that time, people couldn’t play music together, concerts were canceled one after another, giving him a sense of music disappearing. Although one can listen to digital music through online platforms, the experience is vastly different from a live performance.

He said, “Having experienced such uncertainty, I felt a stronger desire to prevent music from disappearing. If children develop an interest in music or playing instruments and produce beautiful sounds, I believe that message can be passed on to the future, and that’s the essence of this film.”

In “Movie Doraemon: Symphony of Nobita’s Earth,” Nobita and his friends must use music to combat terrifying creatures attempting to eliminate music. To aid them, Doraemon uses the “Musician License” to assign suitable instruments to everyone. Nobita, however, is given the most ordinary and least favourite instrument for him – the flute, leading him to exclaim “It’s unfair!”

When asked why the flute was chosen as the starting point of the story, Imai mentioned that it’s a common instrument that everyone encounters in childhood. He hopes to convey the message that for those not skilled in instruments or uninterested in music, “there is a vast world ahead in learning the flute and music classes!”

Imai pointed out that many animated works based on music typically depict stories through music, while this film takes a different approach by “depicting music through ‘Doraemon’.” He expressed a hope that children watching this film would be inspired to start learning music from scratch or explore the world of music, aiming to make it an unprecedented cinematic experience.

Furthermore, he emphasized that since the film’s theme is music, the sound department put a lot of effort into the musical aspects, which is something you can only truly experience in a movie theater.

The movie’s story mainly revolves around Nobita practicing the flute, which he struggles with in preparation for the school music concert. At this moment, a mysterious girl named Mika suddenly appears before him. Impressed by Nobita’s laid-back melody, Mika invites Doraemon and the gang to the “Panellium Hall,” powered by music energy. To revive the Hall, Mika seeks experts to play music together. Using the “Musician License” gadget, Doraemon enables everyone to perform music to help revive the Hall. However, as they venture, terrifying creatures aiming to erase music from the world come after them…

The film will be released on July 12 with Mandarin dubbing and Japanese original audio versions simultaneously in Taiwan this year.
