Under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party, the social atmosphere is becoming increasingly tense. On May 20th, in the Shuijing Bay community of Chengxi Street, Qianjiang District, Chongqing, a man and a woman got into an argument while playing mahjong over a debt of three yuan. The man ended up slashing the woman’s child three times, resulting in the loss of one of the child’s eyes.
A circulated video shows a child squatting on the ground with medical personnel holding the child’s head. Police officers were present and handcuffed the man. Surrounding onlookers were quick to condemn the man.
Local internet users revealed that the man, while playing cards, got into an argument with the child’s mother over 3 yuan and resorted to violence with a knife. He missed the mother and instead attacked the child with three slashes, resulting in the loss of one eye.
Informed locals confirmed to reporters that the incident was indeed true, with one side of the child’s face being split open, an eyeball falling out, the chin being slashed, and the expectation of facial scarring and blindness in one eye in the future.
The informant stated that the man owed money to the woman, possibly just 3 yuan, and the woman scolded him for running even that small amount on credit. Enraged, he threatened to harm her child if he couldn’t outdo her in the argument. He then went to a supermarket, bought a knife, and attacked the child who was just 4 years old. Fortunately, someone witnessed the incident and recorded the video.
“It was on May 20th, the so-called Valentine’s Day. Many men and women in Qianjiang like to play mahjong. The men go to work while the women stay at home with the kids, often taking them along wherever they go if they can walk. The women don’t work and rely on mahjong to make a living.”
The informant revealed that the man was single, and local men who play mahjong are generally jobless drifters who work sporadically, using the money earned to continue playing mahjong. Many people in the area follow this pattern.
The video was reposted on an overseas platform, prompting netizens to express dismay over the increasing social tension in China. Comments included: “On this land tainted by the ‘Red Devil’, anything is possible!” “Those involved in these acts must have colluded with the local police station!” “Blinding a child over three yuan is not just anger, it’s psychological breakdown.” “I know a woman whose husband stabbed someone to death over two yuan from gambling and ended up serving 17 years in prison! He was also from Chongqing!”
Some netizens remarked, “The fact that three yuan triggered such a heinous incident indicates that the issue isn’t about money; it’s about certain individuals lacking restraint or moral boundaries, having a knife on hand, turning this into a timed bomb exploding in society.”
