On June 1, although many parts of the mainland have entered early summer, residents of Genhe City in Inner Mongolia woke up to an unexpected sight – snowfall. The white blanket of snow covered the city, creating a winter wonderland in early summer.
According to a report by “Extreme News,” on the morning of June 1 around 10 a.m., a staff member at a hotel in Jinhe Town, Genhe City, mentioned that she was surprised to find snow when she woke up. Some areas had accumulated snow ranging from 3 to 5 centimeters thick.
The meteorological staff in Genhe City indicated that early on the 1st of June, snowfall was reported in the northern parts of Genhe, including Jinhe, Mangu, and Alongsan. This sudden weather phenomenon was primarily influenced by a cold air mass from Siberia, compounded by the higher latitude and altitude of Genhe.
Public information reveals that Genhe City is a county-level city under Hulunbuir City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is located on the northern slope of the Great Khingan Mountains, north of Hulunbuir City, and is one of the highest latitude cities in China.
In addition, “Aurora News” reported that on June 1, it also snowed in the Da Hinggan Ling region of Heilongjiang.
In recent days, temperatures in most parts of China have been steadily rising, with many areas already feeling the heat of early summer. However, just before the arrival of the hot season, certain regions of Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang were once again covered in snow, with temperatures dropping below 0 degrees Celsius in some areas. This stark temperature contrast has garnered attention online, with many expressing disbelief.
A post by a notable blogger, “See the World,” described the scene in the streets of Genhe in Inner Mongolia following the snowfall. Just days ago, people were shedding their heavy winter clothes for lighter spring attire, but after the snow, down jackets, thick cotton coats, and padded jackets made a comeback. Pedestrians in the morning were seen bundling up their clothes tightly, walking more slowly than usual due to slippery roads caused by snow and melting ice. Car owners also reduced their speed, paying close attention to road conditions to avoid accidents.
The unexpected snowfall has also affected local crops. According to the article, the sight of fields and residents’ vegetable gardens in Genhe was distressing. After the start of summer, many households had planted various vegetable seedlings, hoping to see them thrive. However, the sudden cold snow damaged the tender seedlings, causing wilting leaves and growth setbacks. Many residents looked at their gardens with regret, saddened by the impact on their crops.
