Russian Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) has recently announced that starting from August 1, 2025, the sale of four Chinese brands, Dongfeng, Foton, FAW, and Shantui, is prohibited in Russia.
According to a report by the Russian news agency Sputnik on July 30, the Russian Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology issued a statement stating that based on inspection results, they have decided to ban the import and sale in Russia of four models, including Dongfeng DFH4180, Foton BJ4189, FAW CA4250 and CA4180, Shantui ZZHS, Foton M4L, Dongfeng DFH5200B, Foton H5, and FAW JH6-B 8X4 trucks.
The reason for prohibiting these models is that they fail to meet mandatory safety requirements in areas such as braking systems, noise control, vehicle inspection, and emergency rescue equipment, which could not ensure the safety and health of drivers and other road users.
According to data from the Russian market analysis agency Avtostat, in the period from January to June 2025, the sales of medium and heavy-duty trucks from the four banned Chinese brands accounted for slightly over 25% of the market share in Russia.
In February of this year, the Russian Minister of Industry and Trade criticized Chinese automotive companies for infiltrating the Russian market, stating that the imported trucks from three Chinese brands have serious defects that do not comply with a series of mandatory requirements in Russia.
On February 14, the Chinese media outlet Caixin reported that on February 10, the Russian authorities announced the cancelation of certification for a product of the Chinese commercial vehicle company, Shaanxi Auto, suspending its sales in Russia. The Russian side claimed that this product did not meet a range of mandatory requirements in Russia in terms of noise control, rear-end collision protection, and side protection.
