Recently, the case of Zhang, a deputy bureau-level official in Yuxi City, Yunnan Province, being reported by his ex-wife Ge Hui has sparked attention. As the details of the report were disclosed, public focus has shifted from personal marital disputes to whether there are violations involving accepting banquets and maintaining improper relationships with management service objects.
On October 27, the Yuxi City Government Office issued a personnel appointment announcement stating that Zhang had completed his probation period and was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Yuxi City Agriculture and Rural Bureau. Prior to this, he served as the director of the Yuanjiang County Agriculture and Rural Bureau.
Ge Hui is the Deputy Director of the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau of Yuanjiang County, Yuxi City, Yunnan.
On December 20, Ge Hui reported to the Yunnan Provincial Discipline Inspection and Supervision mechanism that in the early hours of October 8 of this year, during the subsistence of their marriage, her then-husband, Zhang, Deputy Director of the Yuxi City Agriculture and Rural Bureau, was found in a hotel room at Yunnan Hongta Bank with a staff member named Chen. She reported the incident to the police.
Ge Hui stated that another individual accompanying Zhang and Chen to the hotel was a deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Yunnan Yuanjiang Industrial Park Management Committee. The room fees were paid by businessmen Yang and Tang, engaged in real estate development in Yuanjiang County.
According to a report by China Newsweek, on the afternoon of December 29, when asked about whether the management service objects covered the expenses that night, Chen responded, “I don’t know, I’m not sure, I have no comment.” Numerous attempts to reach Zhang led to a response indicating he was currently on another call.
As evidenced by the recording provided by Ge Hui, she has lodged a report with the Yunnan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, and the staff has recorded it for follow-up. On the morning of December 29, the Yuxi City Commission for Discipline Inspection informed her that the report had been officially accepted.
In the afternoon of December 29, the Yuxi City Commission for Discipline Inspection stated that the case had been received and was currently in the approval phase, not yet entering the investigation stage or assigned to a department.
Red Star News reported that Ge Hui provided more details about her marriage with Zhang. They met at work, got married in 2016, and have a child together. They divorced once before, but reconciled when Zhang needed to be transferred to the Yuxi City Agriculture and Rural Bureau as the Deputy Director.
“After moving to Yuxi City for work, I felt something was off about him,” Ge Hui said. She mentioned that on October 7, Zhang claimed he was going to Tonghai County, but his phone’s location data showed he headed towards Kunming instead. Ge Hui decided to follow him and eventually found him at the shopping center “Wanxiang City” in Kunming.
Ge Hui noticed that during this time, Zhang made purchases at Wanxiang City and then moved on to the Yunsuiyi Hot Spring Resort Hotel in the Panlong District. Following him, she discovered that Zhang first had dinner with a woman, then went to a KTV to sing, and later entered a room in the hotel.
Yunsuiyi Hot Spring Resort Hotel is a boutique hotel that opened in May 2025, with 12 rooms, and the prices for single rooms range from over 600 yuan to over 2000 yuan.
The hotel has two rooms named “Heart” and “Bamboo.” Ge Hui stated that Zhang and the woman stayed in the “Bamboo” room on the right side, and she noticed another man accompanying them stayed in the “Heart” room on the left side.
Hotel staff stated that both the “Heart” and “Bamboo” rooms have private gardens and “private hot springs,” currently priced at 700 yuan during the off-season, expected to rise to over a thousand yuan during the peak season on New Year’s Day.
Around two o’clock in the morning on October 8, Ge Hui called the police under the guise of suspected prostitution, and local police officers arrived at the hotel. Ge Hui followed the police into the “Bamboo” room. She mentioned that at the time, she heard the woman explaining to the police that they were in a “romantic relationship.” Later, Zhang also explained to the police that they were in a “romantic relationship.”
A video recorded by Ge Hui at the scene showed a man and a woman being questioned by the police in the room.
“The man in the video is my then-husband, Zhang, Deputy Director of the Yuxi City Agriculture and Rural Bureau, and the woman, who I later found out, is Chen from Yunnan Hongta Bank,” Ge Hui stated.
Believing that Zhang had an extramarital affair, Ge Hui mentioned that on October 9, both parties went to the Yuxi Hongta District Civil Affairs Bureau to register for divorce. After the one-month cooling-off period ended on November 11, she obtained the divorce certificate.
