Taiwanese students from the southwestern United States gather in Los Angeles.

On October 27th, the Education Division of the Los Angeles Economic and Cultural Office held the 32nd “Association of Chinese Students Presidents Joint Meeting of the Southwest Region of the United States” at the Overseas Chinese Education Center in Los Angeles. The event was attended by presidents of Chinese student associations and student representatives from nine universities in Hawaii, Arizona, and Southern California. Nearly 40 Taiwanese students participated in this event to discuss cooperation and exchange.

Director of the Education Division, Ji Qin-yao, encouraged students to develop self-management abilities, a sense of responsibility, and spirit of mutual assistance. Using the motto “Do good to oneself and to the world,” he urged students to fulfill their responsibilities, not to worry their parents, teachers, or classmates, whether it be completing team projects or making contributions to society after achieving academic success, all with a heart of gratitude.

Yang Li-jing, the Police Secretary of the Education Division, reminded students to be vigilant against fraud and advised them to ignore unfamiliar phone numbers to prevent falling victim to fraudulent schemes.

Li Zheng-han, the head of the Education Division, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the network of student associations, provide opportunities for student association leaders from different schools to learn from each other, and encourage students to engage in service, international participation, and promotion upon their return to school. The education division has compiled a “Reference Manual for Student Association Presidents” containing articles on management principles, practices, and resources for various departments to facilitate the exchange of experiences, assist presidents and officers in managing their associations effectively.

Students from different school clubs learned about the functions of overseas agencies and got to know each other through dining gatherings, promoting mutual exchange. Xu Huang-geng, one of the top ten outstanding young people overseas in 2023, shared insights on “Pursuing success and excellence in the United States” from the perspective of an entrepreneur. His talk on how to establish a successful career in the U.S. resonated greatly with the attending students. Xu Huang-geng also expressed his hope that Taiwanese students can continue to grow and shine in their academic and professional pursuits abroad.
