US State Department Calls on American Citizens in Iran to Evacuate Immediately

The U.S. State Department’s Iranian consulate website issued a warning on Saturday (February 28) advising American citizens “inside Iran” to “shelter in place until further notice” to address the ongoing U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran.

The warning suggested that American citizens contact the Swiss Embassy’s Office for Foreign Interests Protection in Iran by email at tehran.fi@eda.admin.ch or by phone at (+98) 22542178, 22565273, and 22772463 for assistance.

The warning also provided recommendations for “necessary actions”:

1. Find a secure location within your residence or other safe buildings. Carry some food, water, medications, and other essentials.

2. Avoid demonstrations, minimize attention from others, and be aware of your surroundings.

3. Stay updated on breaking news from local media and be prepared to adjust your plans at any time.

4. Keep your phone charged and stay in touch with your family and friends to keep them informed of your latest situation.

5. It is recommended that American citizens register for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) while in Iran to stay informed of the latest developments in terms of security.

6. Receive alerts from the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs via WhatsApp.

Prior to this, Kamal Panhasi, the Persian-speaking spokesperson for the Israeli military, issued a statement urging people near Iranian military centers and facilities to evacuate immediately.

The Israeli military said, “Urgent warning to all individuals inside or near military factories and military infrastructure in Iran: you are in proximity to dangerous weapons and facilities.”

The Israeli military spokesperson also added, “Dear people in Iran, for your safety and health, we urge you to leave these areas immediately and stay away from these areas until further notice.”

The message concluded, stating, “Your presence in these areas will endanger your life.”
