Sichuan Liangshan Earthquake Strikes 3 Times Within 10 Minutes, Reaching Magnitude 4.4

In the early hours of today, April 30th, 2026, three earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above struck within a span of 10 minutes in Liangshan, Sichuan, China, with the largest reaching 4.4 on the Richter scale.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake occurred at 3:11 am on April 30th in Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan (latitude 28.40 degrees north, longitude 100.69 degrees east), with a depth of 17 kilometers.

At 3:19 am on the same day, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck in Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan (latitude 28.39 degrees north, longitude 100.70 degrees east), at a depth of 16 kilometers. Just a minute later, at 3:20 am, another earthquake of magnitude 3.3 hit the same region with a depth of 10 kilometers.

These three earthquakes occurred in close proximity to each other, with their epicenters less than 2 kilometers apart, indicating a single geological event.

The villages within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenters include Mogala Village, Sangduoniucang, and Baqin, with an average altitude of about 3669 meters. As of now, local electricity, communication, and transportation are operating normally, with no reports of casualties or property damage.
