55 Chinese National People’s Congress Delegates Dismissed, Exceeding Total for Past Two Years

The power struggle within the Chinese Communist Party continues to escalate, with an increasing intensity of “purges.” Official data shows that in the past year, 58 National People’s Congress (NPC) delegates have left their positions; among them, 55 were dismissed, and 3 resigned. The number of dismissals exceeds the total of the past two years.

On March 9, Zhao Leji, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, mentioned in his work report that in the past year, 7 delegates were elected to fill vacancies, and the qualifications of 58 delegates were terminated, including the dismissal of 55 and resignation of 3. After the by-elections, there are now a total of 2,878 delegates in the current NPC.

Previously, the report in 2024 revealed that the qualifications of 24 delegates were terminated, with 3 by-elections; the report in 2025 disclosed that the qualifications of 30 delegates were terminated, with 3 by-elections. This indicates that since March 2025, the number of NPC delegates terminated and newly elected has exceeded the total of the previous two years.

It is worth noting that a significant proportion of high-ranking military officials have been “cleansed.”

According to the NPC official website’s “Delegate List,” there are currently 243 military NPC delegates, including Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli, who have been officially announced to have fallen from grace. In addition, 13 senior generals were absent from the military delegation formation meeting on March 3, 2026.
