On November 19, 2025, in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, a four-year-old girl died after going to the hospital for abdominal pain. The parents questioned the doctor’s treatment methods and expressed dissatisfaction with the hospital’s failure to fulfill the promised public apology. This news quickly became a hot topic online.
In a video released by “Jiupai News,” a media under the Hubei Changjiang Daily Newspaper Group in China on November 18, a middle-aged woman choked up as she said, “We went to the hospital twice, and they didn’t arrange for blood tests either time, but such examinations are standard procedures at their hospital.” Up to now, the lady tearfully mentioned that “the doctor has not come out to apologize”.
According to a report by “Hot News” under Jiangxi Radio and Television Station, on November 17, a resident of Xuzhou City, Ms. Chen (pseudonym), revealed to the media that on the early morning of May 2nd this year, her daughter experienced slight abdominal pain. They rushed their child to the local health clinic immediately. She stated, “The doctor neither arranged for blood tests nor took imaging scans, but directly prescribed intravenous therapy.” During the IV procedure, the child suddenly developed fever symptoms. When Ms. Chen inquired, the attending doctor prescribed Ibuprofen to lower the fever, saying “taking the medicine can relieve it,” without further investigating the cause of the fever.
In the afternoon, after returning home, the child showed signs of lethargy, rapid breathing, and other symptoms. Ms. Chen took her child back to the same hospital for treatment, where the child was displaying signs of oxygen deficiency. Oxygen therapy was administered in the emergency room, and the child’s condition improved slightly. The doctor mentioned, “Due to limited medical facilities at the clinic, the child needs to be transferred to a higher-level hospital for further treatment.” Just as the child was being carried into the ambulance, she suddenly lost consciousness. Despite the medical staff’s attempts to resuscitate her, the child passed away.
Following the incident, an analysis by the higher-level hospital suggested that the child’s death may be related to the misuse of Ibuprofen, which could have worsened a potential myocarditis condition, ultimately leading to oxygen deprivation.
In response, the parents raised questions about the clinic’s medical procedures, wondering, “If the doctor had performed basic examinations during the first visit and identified the cause promptly, instead of blindly administering intravenous therapy and fever-reducing medication, perhaps our child wouldn’t have passed away so suddenly.”
After negotiations, the local Health Commission has paid a compensation of 650,000 Chinese Yuan to the family and made a written commitment to take strict actions against the involved doctor according to medical regulations, as well as issue a formal apology to the family. However, six months have passed, and the parents have not received any official notification regarding the progress of the investigation into the doctor or an apology.
