“Taiwan is Amazing”: Northern California Children’s Festival to Debut in August

The Taiwan Cultural and Sports Association of Northern California held a press conference last Saturday to announce the 14th International Children’s Festival, which will take place on August 24th from 10 AM to 4 PM at Cupertino Memorial Park, bringing innovative experiences to attendees.

The theme of this year’s Children’s Festival is “Taiwan MasterWork,” offering a diverse range of activities including a food area, international village, children’s game zone, and stage performances. It is expected to attract participation from thousands of families.

Two major innovative projects at this year’s festival are worth noting. Firstly, there will be a drone project featuring a fun drone soccer competition, providing a unique and unprecedented experience that is sure to delight participants.

Sponsored by the Taiwan Drone Team, the second project showcases unique glass art and woodworking displays for attendees to admire up close, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship and beauty of Taiwan’s artistry. This project is sponsored by the renowned Changhua Taiwan Glass Museum and the Taichung Huali Woodworking Siblings.

President Zhang Zhiyang of the Northern California Taiwan Cultural and Sports Association stated that the association is dedicated to promoting Taiwanese culture and sports. They will closely collaborate with the Overseas Community Affairs Council of Taiwan, the Education Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in San Francisco, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation, as well as local overseas Chinese communities to jointly promote the development of Taiwanese culture and sports, providing high-quality cultural and sports services for first, second, and third-generation Taiwanese immigrants.

Through the Children’s Festival, he hopes to promote Taiwan’s soft power diplomacy, enhance interactions between people, foster stronger family relationships, and help the descendants of immigrants understand the childhood games of their elders.

The event will feature four main areas: International Village, Food Area, Game Zone, and Stage Performance Area, with a total of up to 130 booths.

The Stage Performance Area will showcase a rich variety of programs including Japanese street dance, Chinese kung fu, Azerbaijani dance, Danish song performances, Native American square dancing, Vietnamese dance, Korean traditional dance, Indian dance, and Taiwanese indigenous dance.

The International Village will feature booths from 10 countries including India, South Korea, Japan, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Israel, Uzbekistan, Laos, Sweden, and Iran, showcasing each country’s culture and children’s games.

The Food Area will offer a variety of cuisines such as wheel cakes, popcorn chicken, beef noodles, boba tea, Korean seaweed rice rolls, Mexican taco corn cakes, Taiwanese shaved ice, and cotton candy.

The Children’s Game Zone will offer diverse activities including ring toss, goldfish scooping, pinball, pony rides, a cute animal area, drone soccer matches, and bounce houses among other activities.
