On the evening of Saturday, a masked gunman walked into a McDonald’s in the Bronx and opened fire on two children aged 12 and 13, firing at least six shots. Both children were hit but not in critical areas, and were rushed to the local emergency room where their conditions were reported as stable.
Around 9:50 pm on Saturday, the shooting took place at the McDonald’s located at 2516 White Plains Road in the Bronx. The 12-year-old boy was hit in the back and left leg, while the 13-year-old boy was hit in the left leg. Paramedics arrived at the scene and immediately transported the two children to Jacobi Hospital for treatment, where their conditions were said to be stable.
Law enforcement officials revealed to the New York Post that they found six shell casings at the scene. The gunman, described as a darker-skinned male, was wearing a black medical mask and a black hoodie with a pink emblem. After firing the shots, he fled in the direction of Bronx Park East along Mace Ave.
As of the time of this report, the police have not released any photos or videos of the suspect, nor have they made any arrests. The motive behind the gunman opening fire on the two children remains unclear.
Gun violence cases involving teenagers in New York City have been on the rise recently. Last month in Brooklyn, a 9-year-old girl was struck by a stray bullet while playing with her cousin; in another incident, a 12-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 14-year-old cousin.
