“Mission: Impossible 2” Tom Cruise doesn’t want audience to be bored, romantic seaside scene turns into stormy sea.

Hollywood actress Jennifer Connelly recently revealed that Tom Cruise, also known as “Maverick,” could not tolerate the romantic and serene sea views in “Top Gun: Maverick,” finding it “too boring,” leading her to sail in rough waters.

Tom Cruise is a superstar on the big screen and he cannot stand scenes that bore the audience. In the movie “Top Gun: Maverick,” American actress Jennifer Connelly plays Penny Benjamin, the former girlfriend of Col. Peter “Maverick” Mitchell. She recently shared a story about Tom Cruise that confirmed his unique vision for making movies to entertain the audience.

Connelly disclosed to “Vanity Fair” on the 4th that there was initially a romantic scene with her and Tom Cruise on a boat in San Diego for the film. She described it as a beautiful scene with dolphins, but Cruise thought it was “too boring.”

Connelly smiled at Cruise’s comment and he continued, saying, “It’s not fast enough, not cool enough, not tough enough. I want Penny to be stronger.”

In one scene of “Top Gun: Maverick,” Penny and Maverick sail on the sea together. Initially, Penny was shown gracefully boating on calm waters, but Cruise took her to shoot a more thrilling scene where Penny sails in rough seas with the boat tilting 45 degrees and water splashing onto the deck.

Connelly agreed with Cruise’s decision and explained that they later filmed the scene in San Francisco where strong winds made it a completely different experience. She found the new filming location much more exciting.

Connelly shared that the filming experience was intense and time constraints didn’t allow for much character exploration, so portraying Penny in a cute and calm manner while navigating a boat in rough seas was an adrenaline-pumping experience she found to be a good choice.

Tom Cruise is known for performing his own stunts in action movies, as seen in the “Mission: Impossible” series from 1996 to 2023. Prior to that, Cruise took on flying planes and riding motorcycles in the first “Top Gun” movie released in 1986.

“Top Gun: Maverick” received high praise from international critics and audiences, earning a 96% and 99% fresh rating on the review site “Rotten Tomatoes.” The film generated a global box office revenue of 1.495 billion US dollars. Due to its success, Paramount Pictures has already begun developing “Top Gun: Maverick 3.”
